The Athletic Republic Story
In 1986, exercise physiologist John Frappier traveled with the U. S. National Team to the Soviet Union as part of the Goodwill Games gymnastics delegation. During his visit, he participated in a sports science conference and was introduced to several physiological and training concepts the Soviets were using to push the thresholds of human performance. That experience inspired him to develop the original Acceleration Training programs, through careful research and input from a team of sports medicine professionals, athletic trainers, and elite coaches. This sports performance training program has evolved into a training system that has followed the same evidence-based approach that formed the foundation for Frappier's pioneering work.
In 2006, former professional triathlete and entrepreneur Charlie Graves rebranded the Frappier Acceleration Network as Athletic Republic and began to expand into new markets around the U.S. and the world. The network currently consists of clinics and training centers applying our protocols and equipment, and continuing to inform the body of knowledge that is at the heart of the Athletic Republic system.
