Athletic Republic, in conjunction with Park City Extreme Cup and Park City Mountain, will present ATHLETEOLOGY, a free evening of education and adventure about the parent’s role in transforming athletic potential into performance. This event is free and open to the public, and will take place on Friday, July 27, 2018 from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm at Park City Mountain’s Legacy Lodge (second floor) at 1325 Lowell Avenue in Park City.

Families attending the Park City Extreme Cup can make an evening of it, with a number of dining options in the Park City Mountain Village before or after the event. While parents are learning, kids can visit the Athletic Republic Recovery Zone (also in the Legacy Lodge) where they can work with trainers to stretch and relax sore muscles and learn how to use foam rollers and bands pre- and post-workout. In addition, Park City Mountain is offering a discounted Adventure Pass to tournament participants for on-mountain activities.

The Athleteology seminars will lead off at 6:30 with John Brenkus, six-time Emmy-winning creator, producer and host of ESPN Sport Science and Athletic Republic’s new Chief Sport Science Officer.  Following his remarks, leading local experts will present informative 15-minute talks, including:

  • “Creating a Culture of Excellence: Developing Elite Soccer Players” by Dr. Mark Williams, Professor and Department Chair, University of Utah, College of Health, Department of Health, Kinesiology and Recreation.
  • “Nutrition for the Adolescent Athlete” by Jenna Ellis, Registered Dietitian, Intermountain Healthcare, The Orthopedic Specialty Hospital (TOSH).
  • “Mindset Development: Eight Mental Habits to Your Next Sports Breakthrough” by Joey Johnson, author of Worthy to Win, former Division I coach, and athlete consultant.
  • “Reducing the Risk of (ACL) Injury” by Bill McDermott, PhD, Biomechanist at Intermountain Healthcare, The Orthopedic Specialty Hospital (TOSH).
  • “Positive Coaching Alliance: Youth Sports as the Development Zone for Better Athletes and Better People” by Lisa Efinger, Park City Soccer Club, Past President
The evening will be hosted by a very special MC: Laura Harvey, Head Coach of the Utah Royals FC, Utah’s representative in the National Women’s Soccer League.

Said Athletic Republic CEO Charlie Graves, “This type of program provides a layer of player support never before seen.  At our 120 sports performance training centers around the world, we coach and train countless young athletes with parents who appreciate their child’s love of their sport and who want to help their child achieve his or her fullest athletic potential, but don’t quite know how to most effectively do that. Many young athletes have a posse of coaches and trainers, but it is only the parent who functions as the "Athletic Director" for the athlete and for the household—whether they realize it or not. Programming like this can help parents get the information and tools they need to best support their child, and help him or her transform potential into performance."
